Your Guide to Fall 2016 Magazine Writing (and Photography) Contests

Welcome to autumn, all you writers, poets and shutterbugs. Time to let the soft, low-angle sunlight, the cool, easterly winds, and the pumpkin-spiced everything inspire you towards your next artistic endeavour. But beware the lure of the tired metaphor, for in his 2016 National Magazine Award-winning poem “The High Road,” David McGimpsey warns:

Are you the kind of person who giggles
when you hear somebody say “poetry
is like peeling an onion”? Yes? Really?
I’m afraid I must take the high road now

  1. Hello, unfortunately I relied on your blog “Your Guide to Fall 2016 Magazine Writing (and Photography) Contests” for accurate information. My mistake I guess. You’re information on the CBC Short Story Contest notes that the deadline is November 1st, 2016. Its 843pm Atlantic time as I write this on November 1st. I was surprised when I went to submit my story just now that the deadline has passed as of midnight October 31st. My fault for not relying on the CBC site, but you should not publish information, especially with respect to information that writers may rely upon, without ensuring its correct.
