Canadian Magazine Awards Roundup: Atlantic, Quebec, Western & more

Awards season is in full swing in Canada’s magazine industry. Earlier this week came the announcement of the finalists for the 2012 Grands Prix des Magazines du Québec — an awards program for excellence in French-language magazine publishing in la belle province.

L’actualité leads all mags with 11 nominations, including one of three finalist spots for Quebec’s Magazine of the Year. Jobboom, Québec science and Ricardo each garnered 5 or more nods. The other two finalists for mag of the year are Urbania and Les Débrouillards. Awards will be handed out in 15 categories at a ceremony later this month in Montreal. [Full list of nominees]

Meanwhile, last week we learned the finalists for the 30th anniversary Western Magazine Awards, open to publications from Manitoba westward, including the Yukon and the Northwest Territories. Vancouver Review, Eighteen Bridges, Vancouver Magazine, Swerve, Alberta Views, Up Here and Western Living are among the most-nominated magazines. Winners in 30 categories will be announced June 15 in Vancouver at the Renaissance Harbourside Hotel. [Full list of nominees]

As you may have read on this blog earlier, last week the finalists for the Kenneth R. Wilson Awards, celebrating excellence in B2B magazine publishing, were announced. CAmagazine, Les Affaires, Alberta Oil, Marketing and National were among the top nominees. Award winners in 20 categories will be revealed June 7 in Toronto. [Full list of nominees]

On June 6, as part of MagNet 2012, the Canadian Society of Magazine Editors will present the 2012 Editors’ Choice Awards, celebrating the best in editorial achievement from the past year. Awards for consumer publications are broken down into three categories by circulation, and there are also awards for trade and custom magazine publishing.

Also held on June 6 in partnership with MagNet 2012: the ACE Awards (Awards for Circulation Excellence) and the PWAC Awards.

And over the weekend we learned the winners of the Atlantic Journalism Awards. Congrats to Saltscapes, Atlantic Business Magazine and Nova Scotia Open to the World, among the magazines who won. [Full list of winners]

Finally, the Canadian Online Publishing Awards (a.k.a. the COPAs) are now accepting submissions for their 2012 program. Early-bird deadline is June 1.

And of course, the 35th anniversary National Magazine Awards will be held June 7 in Toronto, at the fabulous Carlu. Tickets are on sale now.
