This year, we will once again be revealing the winners by way of a virtual broadcast, hosted by Sandra E. Martin on June 11, 2021! What is the NMA Winners’ Celebration event?
The National Magazine Awards 2021: Winners’ Celebration (also: 44th National Magazine Awards) will be held as a virtual event hosted by celebrated Canadian journalist and NMA winner, Sandra E. Martin.
On June 11 at 7pm ET, winners will be announced from all categories, with special guest appearances and acceptance speeches shared throughout the show.
This event will be live-streamed on our Facebook page as well as our website homepage, with complementary content shared on Twitter @MagAwards.
Following the show, a complete winners list will be posted on our website and social media channels including Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.

I’m an NMA nominee – what do I need to know?
Are you nominated? We would love to hear acceptance speeches during the show. There are several options for accepting your award:
Option 1: Join the live Zoom Video Meeting
Get yourself show-ready and give a live acceptance speech during our broadcast by joining our Zoom meeting.
Join the Zoom meeting 30-60 minutes prior to the start of the show at 7 p.m. ET. Please be sure to change your name to your assigned Unique Participant’s Name (UPN) when you join, so we can identify you if you win. See below for instructions on how to change your name to your UPN and contact us if you have not yet received your UPN. Nominees may watch the show through Zoom and, if you win gold, you’ll be brought on to the virtual stage to offer a live acceptance speech by video.
Note: Multiple people can accept a single award by using the same UPN during the Zoom Meeting.
Changing your name to your UPN in a Zoom meeting is easy: To change your name after entering a Zoom meeting, click on the “Participants” button at the top of the Zoom window. Next, hover your mouse over your name in the “Participants” list on the right side of the Zoom window. Click on “Rename”. Enter your Unique Participant’s Name in the Zoom meeting and click on “OK”.

Option 2: Join Zoom by Phone
Zoom also provides a dial-in number if you prefer to give an audio-only acceptance speech. You simply dial the provided number and enter the meeting access code and password when prompted:

Option 3: Pre-recorded Acceptance Speech
All nominees are invited to send in their acceptance speech. Should you receive a Gold award, your pre-recorded video will be incorporated into our awards show. This video should be around 30 seconds long, but aside from that, the stage is yours so have fun!

I’m not a nominee, how do I watch the NMA Winners’ Celebration?
Nominees may join the Zoom meeting using their Unique Participant’s Name and watch the show in Zoom. All others guests are invited to watch the National Magazine Awards through a virtual presentation, broadcast on Facebook and on our website.

Do I need to purchase a ticket for the event?
No, you do not need to purchase an event ticket, however, to help bring this year’s celebration to the industry across the country, the Foundation is requesting a pay-what-you-can donation (we suggest $25) in lieu of ticket costs. As a small charitable organization, these donations are vital to the Foundation’s ability to honour this year’s winners and nominees through this virtual gala.
How do I host a viewing party to watch with my friends or family?
You can use Zoom to hold a watching party so that you can share your screen and watch with your friends and family.

How will the winners be announced?
Winners will be announced by our host, Sandra E. Martin, and special guests, with acceptance speeches from winners who choose to share their comments or videos.
