Finalists announced for 60th Kenneth R. Wilson Awards


The 60th anniversary edition of the Kenneth R. Wilson Awards for B2B magazine publishing will be held on June 3 in Toronto, and today Canadian Business Press announced the finalists [PDF].
CAmagazine leads all publications with 19 nominations, followed by Professionally Speaking (12), University Affairs and CMA Magazine (9 each), Marketing (7) and Up Here Business (6).
Vying for the title of Magazine of the Year are:
Professional Division: BCBusiness, Marketing, Professionally Speaking
Trade Division: Oilsands Review, Renovation Contractor, Retail News
In the category Website of the Year, the finalists are from ACQ Construire, Advisor to Client, Jobpostings Magazine and Salon Magazine.
For Best Cover, the six finalists are Canadian Grocer, Canadian Lawyer, Precedent, Professionally Speaking, Renovation Contractor and Up Here Business.
For Best Issue of 2013 the finalists are BCBusiness, Canadian Interiors, CMA Magazine (2 nominations), Design Edge Canada, Professionally Speaking (2 nominations) and University Affairs.
Awards will be presented in 22 categories. Tickets are on sale for the 60th anniversary KRW gala on Tuesday June 3 in the Grand Banking Hall at Hotel One King West in Toronto. The event will be hosted by Allan Britnell, managing editor of Renovation Contractor, president of the Canadian Society of Magazine Editors, and frequent contributing writer to a diverse range of publications. He has previously been the host of CSME’s annual Editors’ Choice Awards Gala.

Canadian Magazine Awards Roundup

This Thursday, May 1, the National Magazine Awards Foundation will announce the nominees for the 37th annual National Magazine Awards, to be held in Toronto on June 6. The list of nominees along with gala and ticket information will be posted right here on this blog, as well as on the NMAF website.
Rounding up the awards season in Canadian magazines:
The Atlantic Journalism Awards have announced the finalists for awards to be presented on May 10 at the Halifax Harbourfront Marriott. There are three categories for magazines (Best Cover, Best Atlantic Magazine Article, Best Magazine Profile). Herald Magazine, Atlantic Salmon Journal, Progress and East Coast Living are among the leading nominees.
The Western Magazine Awards are accepting submissions until April 30 May 29 for their awards program to be held September 26 at the Renaissance Vancouver Hotel Harbourside. The early-bird rate applies to all submissions entered by April 30 May 29.
The Association québecoise des éditeurs de magazine (AQEM) has not yet made an announcement about this year’s Quebec Magazine Awards (Grand Prix de Magazines du Québec). Last year’s were cancelled due to an urgent need to focus on the recycling issue.
The Manitoba Magazine Awards (the “Maggies”) will be held on October 2. Details about submissions will be posted soon on the website of the Manitoba Magazine Publishers’ Association.
The Alberta Magazine Awards were held on March 20 at the Carriage House Inn in Calgary. UPPERCASE won Alberta Magazine of the Year. Glass Buffalo won Best New Magazine. Janine Vangool (UPPERCASE) won for best achievement in editing. Tom Tait (Galleries West) won for best achievement in publishing. Eighteen Bridges, Swerve, Alberta Venture, Freefall and AlbertaViews were among the winners in individual categories.
The 60th anniversary Kenneth R. Wilson Awards for B2B magazine publishing will announce the finalists for this year’s awards on May 5. The KRW gala will be held in Toronto on Tuesday, June 3, at Hotel One King West. Nominees, ticket information and other details will be posted on the KRW website next week. The KRWs are also currently accepting submissions for the Harvey Southam Award for Career Achievement – deadline May 2.

Canadian Business Press seeking noms for Career Achievement Award

Canadian Business Press and the Kenneth R. Wilson Awards are accepting nominations for this year’s Harvey Southam Award for Career Achievement. Deadline for nominations: Friday May 2.

The Harvey Southam Award is the highest individual honour bestowed by Canadian Business Press. Winners represent the highest standards of B2B publishing and are recognized for their contributions to the Canadian Business Press tradition of distinguished initiative, leadership and integrity.

The award is open to publishers, editors, designers, creators, circulation experts, marketing, sales and promotion professionals, production managers. It cannot be given posthumously.

Nominations are welcome from the entire industry, and must consist of a completed entry form and at least two letters of support from fellow industry members, attesting to the achievements and qualifications of the nominee.

The winner will be presented at the 60th anniversary Kenneth R. Wilson Awards in Toronto on June 3.

Marking 60 years of recognizing excellence in b2b publishing in Canada, the Kenneth R. Wilson Awards is seeking submissions for awards in 25 written, visual, digital and special categories.

The early-bird deadline (save on entry fees) is February 7. Final deadline (including all required hard copies) is February 14.

Submitters are requested to review the categoriesguidelines and helpful tips before submitting.

This year’s 60th anniversary Kenneth R. Wilson Awards gala will be held on June 3 in Toronto, at One King West. More at krwawards.ca.

Each year the competition includes participation from more than one hundred Canadian business-to-business publications. Last year’s major KRW Award winners included OilweekUp Here Business and Marketing.

Oilweek, Up Here Business, Marketing big winners at 59th Kenneth R. Wilson Awards

Last night inside the Grand Banking Hall at One King West in Toronto, Canadian Business Press announced the winners of the 59th annual Kenneth R. Wilson Awards for Canadian B2B publishing, presented by CDS Global.

Best Issue of the year went to Les Affaires for their May 2012 issue “Le pouvoir créatif.”

Best Cover went to Oilsands Review for their September 2012 cover:

Precedent won the award for Website of the Year.

The inaugural Kenneth R. Wilson Award for Best New Journalist went to Katie Keir for her article “When Good Partners go Bad” in Advisor’s Edge.

Marketing magazine led all publications with 3 Gold and 2 Silver awards, followed by CAmagazine, Up Here Business, OHS Canada and Conseiller.

Notable winners include writer Jason Contant, who won two Gold awards for OHS Canada. And Nicolas Mesly won a Gold and two Silver awards for his work in Le Coopérateur agricole.

Tom Gierasimczuk, former editor of Marketing and now vice-president of editorial at Canada Wide Media, emcee’d the gala for the second year in a row. Tom was also a Gold winner himself, in the category Best Profile of a Company (“Vice Age” in Marketing).
