KRW Awards seeking nominations for Harvey Southam Award for Career Achievement in B2B publishing

The Kenneth R. Wilson Awards, one of Canada’s oldest and most prestigious publishing awards programs, recognizing excellence in Canadian business-to-business (B2B) publishing for over 60 years, is seeking nominations from the industry for the Harvey Southam Award for Career Achievement.
Deadline for 2015 nominations: April 15.
Named in honour of journalist Harvey Southam, founding editor of Equity magazine and longtime journalist at the Vancouver Sun, Vancouver Province and Winnipeg Tribune, winners of this award represent the highest standards of B2B publishing and are recognized for their contributions to the Canadian Business Media tradition of distinguished initiative, leadership and integrity.
The award is open to publishers, editors, designers, creators, circulation experts, marketing, sales and promotion professionals, production managers – in short, to everyone in the industry. It cannot be given posthumously.
Nominations are welcome from the entire Canadian B2B publishing industry, and must consist of a completed entry form and at least two letters of support from fellow industry members, attesting to the achievements and qualifications of the nominee.
The board of the Canadian Business Media Association determines the winner, and the award will be presented at the 61st annual Kenneth R. Wilson Awards gala, on June 2 at One King West Hotel in Toronto.
Previous winners of the Harvey Southam Award include Harvey Botting, Doug Bennet, Rolf Lockwood, Tom Davey and Jim Winsor.

Today is the final deadline for submissions to the Kenneth R. Wilson Awards, recognizing excellence in the content and creation of Canadian business-to-business magazines.
One of the Canadian media industry’s most cherished institutions since its founding in 1954, the Kenneth R. Wilson Awards each year celebrate and promote the work of hundreds of publications, writers, editors, and artists dedicated to supporting Canada’s vibrant professional and trade industries.
The most prestigious prize, Magazine of the Year, is offered in 2 divisions: Professional Magazines and Trade Magazines.

Gold and Silver awards will be presented in additional categories for B2B magazine excellence, including 13 categories for magazine writing, 4 categories for design and visual creation, 3 categories for digital content and design.

Kenneth R. Wilson Awards announce Call for Entries

The 61st annual Kenneth R. Wilson Awards for Canadian business-to-business publishing are now open for submissions. The early-bird deadline is February 6; final deadline February 13.
The list of categories includes special awards for:
Magazine of the Year–Professional
Magazine of the Year–Trade
Best Issue
Best Cover
Best New Journalist
There are also 13 awards for writing achievement, 4 awards for visual achievement and 3 awards for digital achievement.
The Harvey Southam Award recognizes career achievement in the Canadian B2B industry.

Winners announced for the 60th anniversary Kenneth R. Wilson Awards


Last night at a gala at Hotel One King West in Toronto Canadian Business Press presented the winners of the 60th anniversary Kenneth R. Wilson Awards for excellence in business-to-business magazine publishing.
The winners of Magazine of the Year were BCBusiness (Professional Division) and Retail News (Trade Division).

The Best Cover awards went to Up Here Business (Gold) and Canadian Grocer (Silver).

The Best Issue awards went to CMA Magazine (Gold) and University Affairs (Silver).

The Best Art Direction awards went to Precedent (Gold) and SRI Magazine (Silver).

Construire (acqconstruire.com) won for Website of the Year.
CAmagazine led all publications with 5 awards (3 Gold; 2 Silver) and 14 Honourable Mentions. Awards were presented in a total of 22 categories for written, visual and digital content. Visit krwawards.ca to view all the winners.
Allan Britnell, managing editor of Renovation Contractor and president of the Canadian Society of Magazine Editors, served as the gala’s master of ceremonies.

Finalists announced for 60th Kenneth R. Wilson Awards


The 60th anniversary edition of the Kenneth R. Wilson Awards for B2B magazine publishing will be held on June 3 in Toronto, and today Canadian Business Press announced the finalists [PDF].
CAmagazine leads all publications with 19 nominations, followed by Professionally Speaking (12), University Affairs and CMA Magazine (9 each), Marketing (7) and Up Here Business (6).
Vying for the title of Magazine of the Year are:
Professional Division: BCBusiness, Marketing, Professionally Speaking
Trade Division: Oilsands Review, Renovation Contractor, Retail News
In the category Website of the Year, the finalists are from ACQ Construire, Advisor to Client, Jobpostings Magazine and Salon Magazine.
For Best Cover, the six finalists are Canadian Grocer, Canadian Lawyer, Precedent, Professionally Speaking, Renovation Contractor and Up Here Business.
For Best Issue of 2013 the finalists are BCBusiness, Canadian Interiors, CMA Magazine (2 nominations), Design Edge Canada, Professionally Speaking (2 nominations) and University Affairs.
Awards will be presented in 22 categories. Tickets are on sale for the 60th anniversary KRW gala on Tuesday June 3 in the Grand Banking Hall at Hotel One King West in Toronto. The event will be hosted by Allan Britnell, managing editor of Renovation Contractor, president of the Canadian Society of Magazine Editors, and frequent contributing writer to a diverse range of publications. He has previously been the host of CSME’s annual Editors’ Choice Awards Gala.
