The National Media Awards Foundation (NMAF) is delighted to share the nominees for the 45th annual National Magazine Awards. Our incredible roster of more than 100 volunteer judges dedicated countless hours to evaluating entries from hundreds of magazines across the country. From their careful consideration of more than 1000 entries, we are pleased to present this list of 199 impressive finalists.
The winners will be announced on June 3 during a virtual ceremony hosted by award-winning journalist Kelly Boutsalis, with Gold winners in writing and visual categories receiving a $1000 cash prize. Please join us in congratulating all of this year’s nominees!
Save the date! We’re thrilled to announce that we will be hosting a long-overdue, in-person event in Toronto on September 29, 2022. Join us at the Globe and Mail Centre for a day of professional development and an evening of reconnecting and networking with friends and peers. Details to follow this summer.

Editor Grand Prix / Grand prix de la rédaction
Jac Renée Bruneau has shaped C Magazine not only into a progressive art reference, but a shining example of diversity and inclusion in bona fide action. The topics and creative work covered between the astutely designed pages all reinforce a fresh and much-needed new range of perspectives in the Canadian art media world.
NMA Jury

C Magazine

The Local
Nicholas Hune-Brown impressed for the quality of the writing about vital humanitarian issues he brought to The Local, as well as the fact that much of it was produced by up-and-coming writers he personally helped coach. That generosity of spirit and community-mindedness is what will propel Canadian media out of its status quo.
NMA Jury
Phillipe Lamarre demonstrated that even a global pandemic is no match for the creativity and constant evolution he inspires at URBANIA, as both a magazine and a wider media franchise. When much of the publishing world was at a standstill he steered his ship deeper into the waters of social media, going to get his audience where it (mostly) now lives. Insightful, continual reinvention.
