Verification is an essential part of journalism, but we’re rarely taught to think about it as a distinct step in reporting methodology. In this workshop, you’ll gain insight into what editorial fact-checking is, where it fits into the editorial process, and how it can be a tool for addressing broader questions of ethics and journalistic integrity.
Allison Baker is the co-creator of the Truth in Journalism Project and co-author of the Truth in Journalism Fact-Checking Guide. She is also the head of research at The Walrus magazine, where she manages the publication’s fact-checking department, oversees its verification and ethical standards, and trains early-career journalists. In 2021, she was a recipient, alongside her colleague and collaborator Viviane Fairbank, of the Michener L. Richard O’Hagan Fellowship for Journalism Education. She lives in Tiohtià:ke (Montreal).
