Job Description

Fleetway’s Technical Publications team is leading the development of cutting-edge documentation for the next generation of Royal Canadian Navy ships. We offer a modern, collaborative environment that leverages advanced technology to produce high-quality technical publications.

Reporting to the Supervisor, Technical Editing, the Junior Technical Editor supports the development of accurate, specification‑compliant technical publications across multiple projects within Fleetway’s Technical Publications department. Working closely with experienced editors, this role focuses on collaboration, attention to detail, and continuous skill development.

New editors receive structured training from intermediate and senior team members to build familiarity with specifications, procedures, and best practices. While initial tasks follow standardized instructions, responsibilities expand over time as skills increase and confidence grows. This role is well‑suited to someone who is organized, curious, and eager to learn in a supportive team environment that values quality and shared success.

Responsibilities

  • Edit, format, and review technical publications and documentation for the In‑Service Support (ISS) contract (Halifax Class Design Agent).
  • Ensure all assigned work meets quality standards, passes internal checks, and complies with project specifications and templates.
  • Work within the Integrated Data Environment (IDE), using XML tools to review and tailor documents for S1000D‑based software.
  • Provide editing and formatting support for reports and documents from other Fleetway departments as required.
  • Follow established procedures, style guides, and workflows, seeking clarification when needed.
  • Contribute to a positive team environment by collaborating with editors, sharing knowledge, and continuously improving editing skills.
  • Maintain organized project files and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.

Qualifications

Education & Requirements

  • College diploma in a relevant field (e.g., Technical Communications, Office Administration, Business, English, or similar).
  • 1–2 years of experience in editing, proofreading, copy‑editing, or administrative/document control work.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat Pro for reviewing and editing documents.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and time‑management skills.
  • Ability to learn and apply technical specifications, templates, and editing standards.
  • Clear written communication skills and the ability to collaborate within a team‑focused environment.
  • Experience with XML, S1000D, or Integrated Data Environments is an asset but not required.
