Based in Ottawa, the Dave Smith Youth Treatment Centre (DSYTC) is a non-profit organization that provides live-in treatment and community-based support to youth aged 13-21 across Ontario. Dedicated to assisting young individuals and their families, the centre specializes in addressing substance use and related challenges. It offers evidence-based programs tailored to the specific needs of young men and women, making it the only facility of its kind in Eastern Ontario. Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role based in Ottawa, ON, for a Communications Board Member. The Communications Board Member will oversee and support the development of effective communication strategies to promote the organization’s mission and work. Day-to-day responsibilities include advising on media relations, ensuring consistent branding and messaging, engaging with key stakeholders, and enhancing the organization’s visibility in the community. Additionally, the role involves contributing to content creation, reviewing communication materials, and assessing the impact of campaigns.

Qualifications

• Strong skills in communication strategy, public relations, and media relations
• Experience with branding, messaging, and crafting engaging content
• Proficiency in social media management and digital communication tools
• Ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders and community partners
• Sound judgment, collaborative mindset, and strategic thinking
• Previous governance or board experience is an asset
• Experience in the non-profit sector or with youth-focused organizations is an advantage
• Familiarity with substance use treatment or healthcare communication is beneficial
• Post-secondary education in Communications, Public Relations, or a related field
