Tai Huynh is a shining example of what it means to be an editor in contemporary Canadian journalism. He has led the creation and meteoric rise of a magazine that has grabbed everyone’s attention, within Toronto and far beyond. From his unwavering commitment to telling stories that go deeper to his willingness to nurture up-and-coming talent, Huynh has grown The Local into one of the country’s most important—and inspiring—independent media brands. With exceptional journalism, a commitment to diversity, and industry-wide appreciation for its efforts, The Local stands out as an example for any Canadian magazine under Huynh’s leadership. We would like to express our particular appreciation for Huynh’s attention to freelancers’ working conditions.

Nouveau Projet is a magazine that explores the ideas, stories, and sensibilities shaping Quebec today. Through ambitious writing, it challenges assumptions and shakes up established norms. Its refined design sparks curiosity, encourages a reading experience that’s both fluid and immersive, and reinforces the credibility of its vibrant, thoughtful voice.
—NMA Jury

—NMA Jury
Serviette feeds the foodie community in a way that’s uniquely its own. It takes an avant garde approach to a subject that is too often traditionally presented. It’s refreshing, an absolute pleasure to read, and it is a visual delight.

Best Magazine: Art, Literary, and Culture / Meilleur magazine : art, littérature et culture
Esse‘s mandate to undertake rigorous critical analysis while also being accessible to a varied readership is underpinned by a commitment to outstanding graphic design and bilingual text in a delightful package. That they celebrated 40 years of serving their readers last year is no surprise and no small feat.
—NMA Jury
Inuit Art Quarterly takes a complex, intersectional approach to covering visual art created by Inuit artists, and always feels like a celebration of the artist and the art. IAQ is visually beautiful, thoughtful, and aims to expand the audience for Inuit artists as well as provide career advancement and funding opportunities for the featured artists.
—NMA Jury
A stalwart on the scene, the Literary Review of Canada is one of the few places left to read about and celebrate books in Canada. There is a high bar set by the editorial team with quality reviews of important books appearing in print and online. One could be fooled into thinking the team on this magazine is much larger than it is. This is a magazine of real consequence, proven by its mandate to platform essays of length and intellectual heft in every issue, wrapped in a visual package that is just right, and those covers are *chef’s kiss*. This is the kind of magazine for which the “punching above its weight” aphorism was truly coined. Bravo!
—NMA Jury
Best Magazine: Special Interest / Meilleur magazine : intérêt spécial

LSTW remains a magazine that is not only of the moment and deeply connected to the community it serves—it is also bold, fresh, and an exciting, welcome addition to Canada’s magazine scene. It continues to elevate the art of storytelling through thoughtfully curated imagery and a bold use of typography; from start to finish, its pages are original in presentation yet consistently true to its brand. Impressively designed and thoughtfully conceived, LSTW showcases a fresh and compelling approach to bilingual, queer storytelling. The magazine is vibrant in reflecting the rich and exciting diversity of the 2SLGBTQ+ community. Reading LSTW feels intimate and absorbing—a real treat.
—NMA Jury
Paddling is a simple, beautiful consumer magazine that understands its audience and what they want, and delivers on every level. It offers service journalism with expertise, and stunning photography supported by disciplined design and execution.
