Jane Kelly to receive 2024 Outstanding Achievement Award

The NMAF is delighted to announce that Jane Kelly is the recipient of the 2024 Foundation Award for Outstanding Achievement.

Jane is a dynamic leader in community journalism, acclaimed for her visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to storytelling that resonates with depth and authenticity. As the founder, publisher and editor of Watershed magazine, Jane has spent over two decades shaping the cultural landscape of Northumberland County, Prince Edward County, the Bay of Quinte and beyond.

From its 24-page inaugural issue in 2001, Watershed has evolved into a celebrated publication, with Jane guiding its growth and evolution. Through more than 90 issues, Jane’s dedication has propelled Watershed to new heights, exemplified by the Spring 2024 issue, a 124-page testament to the magazine’s enduring vitality.

Watershed‘s unique blend of content, spanning from agricultural insights to arts, culture and social issues, reflects Jane’s commitment to capturing the essence of the region. Her editorial vision transcends reporting, delving into the heart of community life with compassion and nuance, amplifying voices often marginalized, and shedding light on important issues such as opioid addiction, migrant farm workers and human trafficking.

In addition to her role as a publisher, Jane is a dedicated mentor, nurturing a talented team of illustrators, photographers and writers who share her passion for community-centric storytelling. Watershed‘s roster of contributors also includes esteemed figures such as Karin Wells, Jeanne Beker, Dan Needles and Tom Cruickshank, enhancing the publication’s depth and breadth.
