The NMA Partners with Indigo Books & Music, Inc

The National Magazine Awards Foundation is partnering with Indigo Books & Music, Inc, in promoting Canada’s award-winning magazines on newsstands. From September 22 to October 18, this year’s eligible winning publications will be featured in a special NMA display in 91 Indigo superstores across the country. 37th NMA Award Winners 

The National Magazine Awards Foundation (NMAF) is pleased to announce the winners of the 37th annual National Magazine Awards. At this year’s gala on June 6, presented by CDS Global and hosted by humourist (and award-winner) Scott Feschuk, the NMAF presented Gold, Silver and Honourable Mention awards in 47 categories representing the best in Canadian magazines from the past year.

The coveted title of Magazine of the Year was awarded to Cottage Life. Cottage Life also won the Gold Medal in the categories How-To and Service: Personal Finance & Business. Cottage Life previously won this award in 1992. Honourable Mention for Magazine of the Year was awarded to Azure and Nouveau Projet.






The award for Tablet Magazine of the Year went to Sportsnet. Honourable Mention went to Canadian Business and The Hockey News.




The award for Magazine Website of the Year went to, the online portal of Maclean’s magazine. Honourable Mention went to the websites of Hazlitt and Torontoist.




The winner of the award for Best New Magazine Writer was Catherine McIntyre, for her story “Clusterf*ck” published in THIS Magazine.








The “Tenth Anniversary Issue” of The Walrus, with cover art by photographer Edward Burtynsky, won Gold in Best Single Issue, while Burtynsky’s collection of images, “Water,” won Gold in Words & Pictures. The issue also won Honourable Mention for Art Direction of an Entire Issue.





Report on Business magazine won the Gold medal in Magazine Covers for “Larry Fink.” For ROB art director Domenic Macri this is his third Gold for covers, the most in National Magazine Awards history. The cover photography by Anya Chibis also won Gold in Portrait Photography.





Writer Curtis Gillespie won a record-tying 4 National Magazine Awards (2 Gold, 2 Silver) from 5 nominations, including a sweep of Gold and Silver in the Essays category.

More than 500 members of the Canadian magazine industry—publishers, editors, art directors, writers, photographers, illustrators, circulators and more—joined esteemed sponsors and other guests at the 37th annual National Magazine Awards gala, at The Carlu in Toronto, presented by CDS Global. This year, from nearly 2000 individual entries received nationwide, the NMAF’s 238 volunteer judges nominated a total of 376 submissions from 92 different Canadian magazines for awards in 47 written, visual, integrated and special categories.
